DHAKA, Nov 5, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking
as to why it shall not pass order to make compulsory the blood test to
determine presence of thalassemia and drugs before marriage and joining jobs.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md
Khairul Alam issued the rule, after hearing a plea submitted in this regard.

The court asked Cabinet Secretary, Law Secretary, Health Secretary,
Director General of Directorate General of Health Services, Director General
of Department of Narcotics Control and Inspector General of Police to reply
the rule within four weeks.

The court also asked why it shall not make compulsory to submit medical
certificate before marriage.

Supreme Court lawyer advocate Syeda Shahin Ara Laili filed the writ on
July 5, pleading court’s direction to make compulsory blood test to determine
presence of thalassemia, drugs in the blood of men and women before marriage
or joining any job.
