Poverty-free Bangladesh to be built with people’s support: Speaker

RANGPUR, Nov 3, 2018 (BSS) – Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin
Sharmin Chaudhury today said a poverty-free Bangladesh will be built under
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the people’s support.

“Bangladesh has become a global role model for development and empowerment
of women as a result of enacting women-friendly laws and policies under
visionary leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” she said.

Dr Shirin said this while addressing a rally of mothers and guardians
organised by Pirganj Women Technical and Business Management College on its
premises in Pirganj upazila town as the chief guest.

Jahan Saikat presided over the rally.

The Speaker said half of the country’s total population is women. It will
be easier to build a prosperous Bangladesh if the women population could be
involved in the main stream of development.

“We have already reached electricity to every house along with conducting
massive infrastructural development everywhere in Pirganj upazila where the
students are studying in electrical light now,” she said.

“We have increased education sub-stipend, allowances for older citizens,
divorcees, lactating mothers and honorariums for freedom fighters and other
allowances for backward population by broadening coverage of social safety
net programmes,” she said.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has established 13,500 community clinics to
deliver quality integrated health, family planning, childbirth and maternity
care and nutrition services and 32 types of medicines free of costs to
underprivileged rural people,” she said.

“Earlier, the people had to go far away for education and getting health
services. The women and children are getting these services easily at their
doorsteps now following establishments of the educational institutions and
community clinics,” she said.

The Speaker said, “It is the high time to further expand women empowerment
by making women self-reliant through providing them with training and
necessary support to pave their way for employments and self-employments.”
Under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh has graduated from the LDC
to the status of developing a country, she said and urged everyone to play
for building a middle income nation by 2021 and a developing country 2024 to
build a developed Bangladesh by 2041.

Dr Shirin stressed on reaching the benefits of developments achieved
through the hands of Sheikh Hasina to every doorstep to establish the dream
of ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman.

Later, Speaker visited the Baro Ghola Jam-e-Mosque and addressed a street
rally there.

Pirganj municipal Mayor SM Tazimul Islam Shamim, Upazila Chairman Noor
Mohammad Mandal, Senior Vice-president of District Awami League Chhayadat
Hossain Bakul, its Cultural Secretary Shahidul Islam Pintu, Upazila Vice-
chairman Monayem Sarkar Manu and Pirganj Upazila Awami League’s Acting
President Azizul Haque Rangaa, among others, spoke.
