446 FFS set up in Nertakona

NETRAKONA, Nov 3, 2018 (BSS)-A total of 446 Farmers
Field Schools (FFS), aimed at imparting training on
modern agriculture technologies to field level farmers,
have been set up in different villages of Netrakona
district under a joint venture.

Sources concerned said with a view to increasing crop
production through farm mechanization the Department of
Agriculture Extension (DAE) has set up the FFS in 10
upazilas of district during the last five years.

The Integrated Farm Management Component (IFMC) program
of the government and DANIDA, a foreign funding agency,
jointly implemented the project.

Under the project, at total of 22,200 farmers,
including 11,571 females, were imparted training on
producing toxicity free crops and vegetables
cultivation, homestead gardening, pisciculture, cattle
and poultry rearing, forming farmers society, socio-
cultural activities and marketing of agricultural
products and crops diversification.

Apart from this, each of the farmers trained at the
FFS was provided with Taka 1500 as financial assistance
for procuring different agricultural equipments, the
sources added.

Deputy director of the DAE Netrakona M Habibur Rahman
said these schools have been creating unique
opportunities for the farmers to let them know about the
modern methods of cultivation, crops diversification and
different ways of improving their socio-economic
condition.

Talking to BSS, over 50 farmers informed that during
training at the schools they were acquainted with many
modern cultivation methods to produce toxicity free
crops and vegetables by reducing the production cost.

They were also given training on undertaking various
income generating projects for improving their living
condition.

The trained framers expressed gratitude to Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina and her government for setting up
the FFS schools in the district.
