National Youth Day observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Nov 01, 2018 (BSS) – The National Youth Day-2018 was
celebrated in the district as elsewhere in the country today with a call to
build a happy and prosperous nation free from poverty, hunger and
unemployment.

This year’s the theme of the day is ‘Jegeche Jubo Gorbe Desh,
Bangabandhur Bangladesh’ (Awakened youths to build the country, Bangabandhu’s
Bangladesh).

Marking the day, district administration and the Department of Youth
Development (DYD) chalked out elaborate programmes.

In the morning, a discussion was held on the premises of District
Collectorate Building here with deputy director of DYD Tofael Ahmed Khan in
the chair.

Additional superintendent of police M Rahat Gowhary, assistant
superintendent of police KN Roy Niyati, sadar upazila youth development
officer Jafar Ahmed Lascar and journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman, among
others, spoke at the meeting.

The speakers underscored the need for creating work opportunities for
unemployed youths to lead the country towards desired development apart from
building a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.

They said importance should be given on involving the unemployed youths
in various income-generation activities for protecting them from drug
addiction, militancy and other anti-social activities.

Rahat Gowhary urged youths to play a significant role in achieving the
sustainable development goals (SDGs) as they are the driving force of the
nation, valuable asset of the country and symbol of dream.

Later, a rally was brought out from the premises of the District
Collectorate Building and ended at the same venue after parading the main
roads of the town.

People from all works of life including public officials, social workers,
youths and journalists, participated in the rally.
