National Youth Day to be observed tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2018 (BSS) – National Youth Day will be observed tomorrow across the country in a befitting manner.

This year’s the theme of the day is “Jegeche Jubo Gorbe Desh, Bangabandhur Bangladesh” (Awakened youths for building the country, Bangabandhu’s Bangladesh).

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the National Youth Day at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at 4pm tomorrow.

Different government and non-government organizations have taken various programmes to mark the day.

On the occasion, the Youth and Sports Ministry brought out a youth-procession from Bangabandhu National Stadium this morning aimed at creating awareness among the youths.

Parading main streets of the city, the procession ended in front of the National Press Club.

State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr Shri Biren Sikder, Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy, Secretary of the Ministry Mohammad Abdullah and Director General of Youth Development Department Mohammad Shahiduzzaman joined the procession, among others.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given separate messages on the eve of the day.

In a message, President M Abdul Hamid said “The larger part of the country’s population is youth and it is very essential to build the youth force in a skilled way.”

The youths should be built as complete men with the expertise of education, culture, sports, information technology and good qualities of human being, the president added.

The government has set a target to turn Bangladesh into a developed country by 2041, he said, adding that so, steps should be taken to link the youth forces to all development activities along with providing them proper training from now.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said “there is no alternative to technologically-trained youth force as we are working to build the country into a middle-income one by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.”

Meanwhile, 22 youths among the trained youth male and female and other five youth organizers will be awarded with ‘National Youth Award’ for their contribution to create self-employment project, said Dr Biren Sikder, state minister for youth and sports in a press-briefing at the ministry here today.

The Youth Development Department has imparted training to 24 lakh 6 thousand 641 youths on different trades during the tenure of the present government.

Of them, 6 lakh 21 thousand 912 youths have been made economically solvent through self employment, the state minister said adding the national services will be expanded to all districts and upazilas in phases.

So far, 2,010274 youths of 138 upazilas under 37 districts were imparted training and 2,07,939 were provided with temporary employment, the state minister said.
