Seven alleged militants held with arms, ammos

RANGPUR, Oct 31, 2018 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested seven
presumed militants with huge arms and ammunition conducting different
overnight raids in Lalmonirhat.

The arrestees had been claimed to be members of banned outfits Ansarullah
Bangla Team (ABT) and Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB).

“A special operational team of Militancy Cell of RAB-13 raided at a tin-
shed room in Mushrat Modati village of Kaliganj upazila in Lalmonirhat and
arrested five ABT operatives,” Commanding Officer of Rangpur RAB-13 Md
Mozammel Haque today said at a press briefing at its battalion headquarters.

The arrested persons are Regional Coordinator of ABT Hasan Ali alias Lal,
38, of village Bhotmari Adarshapara and its central ‘Shura’ member Asmat Ali
alias Laltu, 27, of village Natun Ektari, members of its military wing
Shafiul Islam Saddam, 28, of village Char Bari, Abu Nayeem Mister, 19, of
village Bhotmari Adarshapara and Ali Hossain, 25, of village Monirabad under
Kaliganj upazila of Lalmonirhat.

The elite force also seized two foreign pistols, two magazines, four live
bullets, explosives and devices for making bombs, provocative ‘jihadi’ books
and leaflets and four mobile phone sets used for militant activities from
their possessions,” he said.

In an identical raid, the RAB personnel arrested two JMB operatives from a
roadside area in Rasulganj Sahebdanga village of Patgram upazila in
Lalmonirhat with provocative ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets.

The arrested JMB operatives are Tamizul Islam, 39, of village Mirjarkot and
Sunnai Islam Sunna, 21, of Jummapara Upazila Mour in Patgram upazila of
Lalmonirhat district.

During primary interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they had been
hiding for the last two-year and conducting organisational activities, Haque
added.

The arrested militants also had plans to conduct subversive activities at
different places of Rangpur region and efforts were on to collect information
about other members of these outfit organisations, he added.

RAB handed over the arrested militants to the respective police stations
today after filing separate cases against them under the Arms Act and Anti-
terrorism Act.
