RCC area to be expanded soon: Liton

RAJSHAHI, Oct 31, 2018 (BSS)- The area of Rajshahi City Corporation
(RCC) is going to be expanded to 900 square-kilometers from its existing
95.56 square-kilometers.

City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton revealed this while addressing a
view-sharing meeting with all partner and associate organizations at city
bhaban conference hall here Tuesday.

Liton said the periphery will be expanded to the entire areas of twelve
police stations of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP).

Chaired by RCC Chief Executive Officer Shah Momin the meeting was
addressed, among others, by Chairman of Rajshahi Development Authority (RDA)
Prof Bazlur Rahman, Managing Director of Rajshahi WASA Sultan Abdul Hamid,
RDA Chief Executive Officer Dr Dewan Shahriar Firoj and RCC Secretary Rejaul
Karim.

Mayor Liton said area of the city’s southern part will be enhanced
through capital dredging of the river Padma. Tourist city will be built
through establishing resort, cottage and amusement park on the reclaimed
land.

RCC and RDA will work together to build more residential and commercial
areas in the days ahead, Liton added.

Narrating his planning for development of the city he said Taka 10,000
crore projects will be implemented within next five years in Rajshahi city
for improving living and livelihood condition of its people.

Liton said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive towards
development of the city. So, he expected that there will be no financial
problem of implementing the development.

He added Rajshahi WASA Surface Water Treatment Plant Project with Taka
4,062 crore has already been approved in ECNEC meeting for providing treated
water to Rajshahi people.

Leather industrial estate will be established here aims at improving
socio-economic condition of the region through flourishing the leather
sector.

A site of 100 acres of land has already been selected at Harian and
Belpukur areas for the purpose. Regional office of Bangladesh Small and
Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) is working in this regard.

Liton said he is committed to generating employment opportunities for
one lakh unemployed people. Implementation of Bangabandhu Hi-tech Park here
is progressing fast and employment scopes for more than 14,000 youths will be
created after its successful completion.

He expressed his commitment of building Rajshahi as a prosperous,
modern and developed city and to expedite industrialization process in the
city and its outskirts and sought all-out cooperation of the city dwellers
for successful implementation of the projects.

“We have plans of setting up five star hotels, BKSP, cricket venue,
agricultural university and heart foundation in the city,” Liton asserted.
