5 Jamaat-Shibir men jailed in bomb blasting case

RAJSHAHI, Oct 31, 2018 (BSS)-A trial tribunal here on Tuesday sentenced five
Jamaat-Shibir activists to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment each on charge of
blasting bombs on on-duty police men in Chapainawabganj around five years
back.

The convicts are: Jamaat leader Abdul Khaleque and shibir activists Kamal
Uddin, Belal Uddin, Sohel Rahman and Anwar Hossain. They were also fined Taka
10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more behind the bars.

Judge of Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Anup Kumar found the
convicts guilty of the charge and pronounced the verdict in presence of four
of them.

According to the prosecution, the accused put up barricade on the highway
in front of Primary Teachers Institute in Chapainawabganj town as part of a
nationwide anti-government movement on November 28, 2013.

They also hurled bombs and cocktails on the on-duty police force.
Subsequently, a case was lodged with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station.
Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charges accusing them.

After examining recorded depositions of 20 prosecution witnesses and other
relevant evidences the tribunal handed down the verdict.

Special Public Prosecutor Entajul Haque Babu conducted the case on behalf of
the state while Advocates Abu Muhammad Selim and Mijanul Islam defended the
accused.
