ICC Cricket WC Trophy kept in Kathmandu for public display

KATHMANDU, Oct 29, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) -The International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup Trophy, which is on a global tour, was kept for public display in Nepal’s capital city on Monday.

The trophy arrived in Nepal on Friday for four days as the ICC Cricket World Cup is set to take place in England and Wales in 2019.

The spectacular trophy was kept at the UNESCO World Heritage Site Kathmandu Durbar Square for four hours for the public viewing. Hundreds of people, particularly cricket enthusiasts, queued in the Durbar Square to view the trophy and take photographs amid tight security.

According to the ICC, the trophy that weighs 11 kg is made from silver and gold, and features a golden globe that characterizes a cricket ball.

Nepal is one of the 21 countries chosen for the global tour. The trophy started its journey from the ICC headquarters in Dubai and has already traveled some countries including Oman, the United States, West Indies, Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Earlier, the World Cup trophy was made public in Kathmandu’s Swayambhunath Stupa and the tourist city Pokhara. On Sunday, it was kept at the President’s Office Sheetal Niwas in Kathmandu amid the presence of Nepali President Bidya Devi Bhandari.

ICC Nepal representative said the World Cup trophy will travel to India and other countries after Nepal.
