Govt signs deal with China CRIG to expand digital connectivity

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2018 (BSS) – Department of Information and Communication Technology (DoICT) today signed a deal with China Railway International Group (CRIG) for establishing digital connectivity with the aim of expanding broadband internet across the country, including far-flung areas.

DoICT Director General A K M Khairul Alam and CRIG Chief Representative in Bangladesh Wei Xiaojun put pen on the agreement paper in presence of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar.

The Establishing Digital Connectivity Project involving Taka 8,000 crore would be implemented from January, 2019 to January, 2021.

Internet connectivity would be offered at same price across the country after the implementation of the project.

In addition, 35,500 Sheikh Russell Digital Labs would be installed which would benefit around 70 lakh students as well as high-tech labs in 54 public universities for specialized knowledge-based education.

Besides, 100 digital villages would be established alongside providing ICT training to 10,000 farmers to boost agriculture production.

ICT Division Secretary Zuena Aziz, CRIG President Chen Shiping, Vice president Wang Lijie, Asia Managing Director Yuan Zuoziang and officials concerned were present.
