Quader urges transport workers to withdraw countrywide strike

DHAKA, Oct 28, 2018 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today urged the transport workers to withdraw their countrywide strike considering the sufferings of the common people.

“There is no scope of amending the newly passed the ‘Road Transport Act-2018’ at this moment…It is needed to wait for the next parliament,” he told reporters after European Union Ambassador Renesa Tirink made a courtesy call on him at Setu Bhaban in the city.

Quader, also general secretary of ruling Awami League, said, “Withdraw the 48-hour strike. There is no benefit of creating sufferings for the common people. We will consider your demands, if there is the logic.”

He said the session of the parliament will end tomorrow (Monday). After that, lawmakers will not be able to exercise their power or work. Everyone should obey the electoral rules, he added.

Regarding the seven-point demand of Jatiya Oikyafront, Quader ruled out possibility of accepting the demands, saying the constitution will have to be changed if the government accepts their demands, which is impossible.

Besides, the minister said, there is no scope to reconstitute the Election Commission.
