TIB blamed for lacking transparency, accountability

RAJSHAHI, Oct 28, 2018 (BSS)-An allegation was brought here today against
Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) for lacking transparency and
accountability in its activities.

The abolished Rajshahi chapter of Committee of Concerned Citizens (CCC),
an offshoot of the TIB, brought the allegation at a press conference.

Reading out a written statement at the conference, Professor Abdus Salam,
president of the committee, said the TIB authorities abolished the Rajshahi
CCC recently without any discussion and maintaining proper method.

Prof. Abdus Salam said the TIB also terminated its Area Manager Mahmud Ali
and Office Assistant Arif Hossain, who were working with the Rajshahi CCC.

He alleged in violation of normal practice the TIB authorities did not
inform them anything before taking the decision of their termination.

Salam said if anybody is terminated from his or her service for any
allegation, the persons concerned have the right to know the causes of
termination or dismissal from the services.

“For unknown reasons, the TIB totally avoided this legal procedure again
and again. Moreover, the TIB instigated CCC Rajshahi city unit to quit the
organization,” Prof Salam claimed.

He added that maintaining transparency and accountability, the main agenda
of the TIB, has become an urgent need to make the social movement against
corruption in Bangladesh fruitful and successful.

Some other members of the committee like Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan, Prof
Tanjima Johra Habib, Akbarul Hassan Millat, Mozammel Haque, Mosharraf Hossain
Akunji and Dr Rustam Ali were present at the press conference.
