Former chief minister of New Delhi Madan Lal Khurana dies
NEW DELHI, Oct. 28, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Former chief minister of Indian
capital city New Delhi Madan Lal Khurana died at his home after a prolonged
illness, officials said Sunday.
The 82-year-old Khurana breathed his last on Saturday night.
“He died at around 11:00 p.m. (local time) yesterday at his residence in
Kirti Nagar here,” a family member told media. “He was suffering from a chest
infection and fever for the last few days.”
Khurana, a leader of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), was a four-time
parliamentarian and served as chief minister of New Delhi from 1993 to 1996.
He was also governor of Rajasthan in 2004 for a brief period.
“His mortal remains will be brought from his residence to Delhi BJP office
at Pant Marg, where people will pay tributes to him,” a BJP official said.
“The last rites of leader will be held today itself.”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled Khurana’s passing-away.
“Shri Madan Lal Khurana Ji will always be remembered for the manner in
which he strengthened the BJP in Delhi. He made unwavering efforts towards
serving the post-partition refugees in Delhi. My thoughts and solidarity with
his family and supporters,” Modi wrote in condolence message.
