India works sincerely for peaceful Rohingya repatriation: Shringla
COX’S BAZAR, Oct 26, 2018 (BSS)- Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh
Harsh Vardhan Shringla today said his country kept an eye on the situation in
Myanmar’s Rakhine state, the abode of minatory Rohingya community as its
efforts were underway for their peaceful repatriation.
“The government of India is working sincerely for their peaceful
repatriation,” the envoy told a view exchange meeting with Hindu community
leaders here as he was on a visit to Cox’s Bazar.
He said India was also cooperating with Bangladesh in handling the issues
arisen out of the Rohingya crisis and “observing the overall situation of
Rakhain state of Myanmar through different media”
Around 700,000 Rohingyas took shelter in Bangladesh from Myanmar’s Rakhine
state since August 2017 following the brutal military actions of Myanmar.
Shringla said India stood beside Bangladesh since its 1971 Liberation War
and continue the support in future as well as the seed of the bilateral ties
was sown by Bangladesh’s Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman and the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
“The relationship remains cemented till now . . . India will remain with
Bangladesh during its good and bad times,” he said.
The envoy said the bilateral relationship was strengthened further in the
past several years under the initiatives of Bangladesh’s incumbent Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
Cox’s Bazar Puja Udjapan Parishad President Advocate Ranjit Das chaired the
view exchange meeting joined as well by Ashek Ullha Rafiq MP, acting deputy
commissioner of the district Md Mahidur Rahman, police super ABM Masud
Hossain, Awami League, district unit General Secretary Mujibur Rahman and AL,
municipality unit President Md Nazibul Islam
