CRT to play vital role to combating militancy, terrorism
RAJSHAHI, Oct 25, 2018 (BSS) – ‘Crises Response Team (CRT)’ of Rajshahi
Metropolitan Police (RMP) will play a pivotal role in combating militancy,
terrorism and trafficking, peddling and addiction of drugs in the region in
the days ahead.
Police officials made this observation while giving certificate of a 19-
day fresh-up training of the newly formed CRT on RMP Police Lines parade
ground in the city today.
The 24-member team has been formed in similarity with the squad of Special
Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) through time-fitting training.
The team activity was launched formally at RMP headquarters here recently
with the main thrust of facing some major unruly and subversive activities
and violence, including terrorism, militancy and drug-trafficking in the
metropolis.
The team comprises one assistant deputy commissioner (ADC), two senior
assistant commissioners, two inspectors, five sub-inspectors, one assistant
sub-inspector and 13 all-rounder constables.
RMP Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akter and its Deputy Commissioners Ameer Jafar
and Saiful Islam, Chief Instructor of US Departertment of State Anti-
Terrorism Assistance (ATA) programme Ben Kirinsky, Assistant Instructor Drew
Kosheny and CRT Commander Abdur Rahid were present at the closing and
certificate-giving ceremony.
Ben Kirinsky discussed the law and order situation in Rajshahi city and
praised the RMP’s recent-past anti-militancy activities. He assured the RMP
commissioner that members of the newly formed CRT team will be given
furthermore higher training in phases.
RMP Commissioner Hafiz Akter told the journalists that the team has
already completed a training course at Jordan International Police Training
Center in Jordan from July 8 to August 9 successfully. ATA supervised the
training.
They were imparted training on how to conduct operation to arrest
terrorists besides combating militancy in crisis moment with courage.
