First aid training can make journalists more humanitarian: experts

RAJSHAHI, Oct 25, 2018 (BSS)-Experts and senior journalists have
unanimously observed that training on first aid is very important to make the
journalists capable of doing humanitarian works.

They identically mentioned that this kind of training always helps newsmen
becoming more compassionate in their professional life as sometimes they face
violent situation while performing duties.

They came up with the observation while addressing the closing session of
a two-day training workshop on first aid at Hotel Nice International in the
city on Wednesday afternoon.

International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Bangladesh Red
Crescent Society (BDRCS) jointly organized the training where 25 reporters
from different media outlets both print and electronics took part.

Chaired by city unit vice-chairman of BDRCS Rejaul Karim Raju, the session
was addressed, among others, by ICRC Programme Officer Subinoy Dutta, Deputy
Director (Training) of BDRCS Khandaker Iqbal and Communication Officer Raihan
Sultana and journalists Dr Aynal Haque, Rashed Ibey Obaed and Azizul Haque.

BDRCS Deputy Director Khandaker Iqbal, Assistant Director Khandaker
Enayetullah Akram Palah, Master Trainer Mizanur Rahman Hiron and
Communication Officer Raihan Sultana conducted the training sessions as
resource persons.

After completing the training sessions, the journalists are now capable to
save a patient or wounded person with immediate care and support with some
life saving techniques.

Contents of the programmes include introduction to first aid, chocking,
cardio pulmonary resuscitation, shock, bleeding, wounds and dressing of
wounds, burn, fit, fainting, unconsciousness, poisoning, bites, bone fracture
and transportation of causalities.

The participants said the trained newsmen can provide or give immediate
care and support to a wounded a person using the life saving techniques.

In his remarks, Rejaul Karim Raju said the BDRCS is committed to
responding to all humanitarian crises including natural disasters,
emergencies and violence for the sake of reducing sufferings of people in
need.

BDRCS has been working with multi-sectoral approach so that all victims of
both natural and manmade disasters could be brought under its services at
once.

Main objective of the training was to make the journalists capable of
responding to humanitarian crises.
