President takes boat cruise in Swizterland

THUN, Switzerland, Oct 24, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid, who is on five-day official visit to attend investment summit in Geneva, on Wednesday visited ‘Lake Thun’ onboard a boat near Thun city at the northern rim of the Alps, in the midst of the Switzerland’s Bernese Oberland.

The President, along with his entourage members including his spouse Rashida Khanam and son Engineer Rejwan Ahammad Taufiq, MP, accompanied the president in the cruise on the third day of his Geneva tour.

He enjoyed the cruise in the Lake Thun, surrounded by fabulous mountain scenery, a myriad of cozy villages and the charming cities of Thun and Interlaken in the afternoon and early evening.

The President expressed his utmost satisfaction over the lake cruise and attended a series of photo shoots with Bangabhaban and foreign ministry officials and his press team.

Bangladesh Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative to the UN Office Shameem Ahsan, Foreign Ministry’s Chief of Protocol AKM Shahidul Karim, President’s secretary Shampad Barua, military secretary Md Sarwar Hossin, press secretary Md Joynal Abedin, president’s personal physician Brigadier General Niamul Gani Chowdhury, assistant military secretary Kazi Iftekharul Alam and senior officials accompanied the President.

Lake Thun was named after the city of Thun. It is approximate 2,500 kmý (970 sq mi) catchment area. Switzerland has as many as 7000 lakes including largest and small water bodies which draw attraction to the foreign and local tourists.

Many of these lakes are also shared with neighbouring France, Germany, Austria, and Italy. Situated within green mountains and snowy summits, Lake Thun is one of the loveliest and largest lakes in Switzerland,
