‘Kathin Chibar Dan’ celebration begins
DHAKA, Oct 24, 2018 (BSS) – Celebration of ‘Kathin Chibar Dan’, offering of yellow robe to monks, began in the city as elsewhere across the country today amid festivity.
‘Kathin Chibar Dan’ is an annual religious festival during which Buddhists donate to monks different items required for living the life of a monk, including a cloth robe woven in their own looms.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued messages separately conveying greetings to the Buddhist community.
Describing Bangladesh as a country of communal harmony, the President urged people from all communities to play their respective roles to expedite the pace of national development and progress.
The Prime Minister hoped that the nation will be imbued with the ideology of Gautam Buddha to establish ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
