Taiwan’s industrial production index up in September

TAIPEI, Oct. 24, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Taiwan’s industrial production index
rose 1.54 percent year-on-year to 111.42 in September, according to the
island’s economic affairs authority Tuesday.

The sub-index for the manufacturing sector, which accounted for more than
90 percent of the industrial production, gained 2 percent year-on-year to
111.79 in September.

The production index for electronic components, the most heavily weighted
within the manufacturing sector, rose 5.01 percent to 122.05.

However, both the industrial production index and the manufacturing sub-
index fell month on month, down 1.11 percent and 0.72 percent, respectively.

In the first three quarters, industrial production expanded 3.83 percent
on a yearly basis, with the manufacturing sub-index up 4.12 percent.

In the meantime, Taiwan’s wholesale revenue grew 2.2 percent year-on-year
to 905 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 29 billion U.S. dollars) in
September.

Retail revenue grew 2.8 percent to 351 billion new Taiwan dollars in
September, while the catering sector increased 7.7 percent to 38.4 billion
new Taiwan dollars, on the back of mall promotions and holiday consumption.
