SANGSAD BHABAN, Oct 23, 2018 (BSS) – The Jatiya Sangsad (JS) today unanimously adopted a thanksgiving motion for achieving two prestigious international awards by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The House adopted the motion for further brightening Bangladesh’s image abroad through achieving the two awards by the prime minister during the 73rd United Nations General Assembly held in New York last month.

Inter Press Service (IPS), a global news agency, conferred the ‘Humanitarian Award ‘ on the premier, while the Global Hope Coalition, a network of three not-for-profit foundations based in New York, Zurich and Hong Kong, honoured her with the ‘2018 Special Distinction Award for Outstanding Leadership’ for her humanitarian and responsible policy in hosting the Rohingyas.

The JS motion came after a detailed general discussion on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s foresight, bold leadership, philosophy and thoughts, which was appreciated home and abroad.

Whip Shahiduzzaman Sarkar moved the proposal on Rohingyas issue as Prime Minister gave shelter to over 11 lakh Rohingyas forced by Myanmar troops from their Rakhine state under the Rule 147 (1) of the Rules of Procedure of the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

The Myanmar government’s continuous persecution and atrocities on the religious and ethnic Rohingya minority in their Rakhaine state and their push in into Bangladesh.
