Mainul arrested following a warrant: Anisul
DHAKA, Oct 23, 2018 (BSS) – Law Minister Anisul Huq here today said that Barrister Mainul Hosein has been arrested following a warrant as he had insulted entire women society through what he said to journalist Masuda Bhatti.
“The comment of Mainul on television talk show was not insulting to Journalist Masuda Bhatti alone; rather it was insulting to entire women. It the law enforcement agencies did not take steps, his “haughty and shameless” comments would be inspired. So, he was arrested following a warrant, said Anisul.
The law minister came up with the comment after attending a programme of Bangladesh Political Science Association (BPSA) at Dhaka University’s Social Science Faculty in reply to a question by journalists.
Dhaka court today sent Barrister Mainul Hosein to jail in a case lodged over alleged defamation of journalist Masuda Bhatti on television.
Police arrested him from the Uttara residence of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) president ASM Abdur Rob.
Several cases were filed against him across the country. The police finally arrested him in a case filed on Monday with Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court that issued arrest warrant against him.
Haq said, “Mainul criticized the government many times before forming Jatiya Oikkya Front, but he was not arrested. Now he has been arrested following an arrest warrant.”
Former governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr. Atiur Rahman addressed the program as the keynote speaker.
Former Vice-Chancellor of DU Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, lawmaker Kamrul Laila Jolly and Political Science society President Gias Uddin Mollah spoke, among others at the programme.
