Journalists’ training on First Aid begins in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Oct 23, 2018 (BSS)- A two-day basic training on ‘First Aid’ for
working journalists began in the city today with the main thrust of
disseminating ideas among newsmen on how to work at crises moment of life
saving.

A total of 30 reporters from different media outlets, both print and
electronics, are taking part in the training workshop arranged by
International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) at Hotel Nice International.

The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) is facilitating the training
course.

City unit vice-chairman of BDRCS Rejaul Karim and its Secretary Prof
Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan addressed the opening session.

Communication and Prevention Manager of ICRC Anna Schaaf, Deputy Director
(Training) of BDRCS Khandaker Iqbal, Assistant Director Khandaker Enayetullah
Akram Palah and Communication Officer Raihan Sultana are conducting the
training as resource persons.

The participants said the trained newsmen can provide or give immediate
care and support to a wounded a person using the life saving techniques.

The training will help newsmen in their professional life as sometimes they
face violent situation while performing duties, Anna Schaaf said.

Contents of the programs included introduction to first aid, choking,
cardio pulmonary resuscitation, shock, bleeding, wounds and dressing of
wounds, burn, fits, fainting, unconsciousness, poisoning, bites, bone
fracture and transportation of causalities.

In his remarks, Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan said the BDRCS is committed to
responding to all humanitarian crises including natural disasters,
emergencies and violence for the sake of reducing sufferings of people in
need.

BDRCS has been working in multi-sectoral approach so that all victims of
both natural and manmade disasters could be brought under its services at
once.

Main objective of the training is to make the journalists capable of
responding to humanitarian crises.
