Price fall in large-caps drives stocks down

DHAKA, Oct 22, 2018 (BSS)- Stock markets closed on Monday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were engineering, pharmaceuticals and chemicals and textile. A total of 187 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 79.21 points down at 5,251.95. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 20.76 points down at 1,209.51 and with 25 points down at 1,859.33.

The daily trade fell to 11.52 crore shares from Sunday’s 12.43 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 435.33 crore from Taka 439.59 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 340 securities, prices of 64 securities closed higher against 236 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were CENTRALPHL, Rahim Text, United Insurance, LIBRAINFU and AIL. The major losing companies were BSRM Limited, BSRM Steel, IBP, Prime Textile and PTL.

KPCL topped the turnover list followed by DSSL, Summit Power, Square Pharma and Delta Life.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 230.64 points down at 16,179.86.

At CSE, 232 issues were traded. Of those, 41 closed higher and 165 closed lower when 64.80 lakh shares worth Taka 18.19 crore changed hands.
