Tofail hopes all parties to participate in next election

DHAKA, Oct 22, 2018 (BSS) – Reiterating that next national election would he held on time following the country’s constitution, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed today expressed his optimism that all political parties would participate in the next election.

“We don’t want to conduct election keeping any party aside,” said the minister while talking to journalists after a meeting with US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat at his secretariat office.

Tofail said political stability is must to continue country’s development and progress, but BNP in the name of resisting national election in 2014 killed officials, police and mass people through vandalism and arson attacks. “Now, BNP has realized their misdeed, and I think they (BNP) will not do this again.”

Marcia Bernicat told journalists that United States expects a stable Bangladesh. “I believe the government is very much sincere to fulfill the expectation of Bangladeshi people,” she said.

She also hoped all political parties would also be sincere to uphold the democracy of Bangladesh.

Replying to a query, the US Ambassador said Bangladesh has progressed much and readymade garment has also attained unprecedented development.

Mentioning that the United States has been doing trade and business with Bangladesh since long, Marcia Bernicat said: “US have investment in Bangladesh and it would increase in future.”

Commerce secretary Shubhashish Bose, additional secretary Munsi Safiul Huq and officials concerned were present.
