DHAKA, Oct 22, 2018 (BSS) – The number of tenderers registered with electronic government procurement (e-GP) system crossed the 50,000 mark as the number stood at 50,094 today.

The Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of IME Division under the Ministry of Planning has been implementing e-GP in the process of public procurement since 2011 with support from the World Bank.

Implementation of e-GP has created a positive impact on public procurement. It saves time and costs. The e-GP has increased competition from 4 per tender to 11.

Until 22 October 2018, a total of 2,15,617 tenders involving a total of $24.75 billion (Taka 1.98 lakh crore) were invited through e-GP. The number of government procuring agencies stood at 1267 out of a total of 1324 in the country, said a press release of CPTU.

The e-GP is an ICT based online procurement system which has been introduced to increase transparency and accountability in public procurement.

Tenderers and procuring agencies can take e-GP support from the 24/7 Help Desk established at CPTU through 16575 from any number anywhere.

Meanwhile, CPTU started training for the registered tenderers from 17 October 2018.

Tenderers now need not go to government offices to submit their tenders. After e-GP implementation they can now submit tenders from their home.
