Awareness of hygienic sanitisation stressed to improve life standard

RANGPUR, Oct 22, 2018 (BSS) – The tremendous success achieved in
ensuring hygienic sanitisation facilities in last 10 years has improved life
standard of the rural population substantially reducing water borne diseases
and related deaths.

Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Joynul Bari said this here today while
addressing a post-rally discussion arranged in observance of the National
Sanitation Month October and World Hand Washing Day- 2018 as the chief guest.

The chief guest stressed on creating awareness among students and common
people on hand washing, health, hygiene, sanitation, personal hygiene and
safe drinking water to build a healthier middle income nation by 2021 and
developed country by 2041.

Earlier, Joynul Bari formally inaugurated observance of the occasions by
releasing balloons on his office premises before leading a rally participated
by officials, employees, teachers, students, civil society members and elite
on the city streets.

The divisional administration with Department of Public Health
Engineering (DPHE) and non-governmental organisations organised the
discussion followed by demonstration of hand-washing process for school
students on the same venue.

With Divisional Director (Local Government) Zakir Hossain in the chair,
Additional Divisional Commissioners Anwarul Islam and Abdullah Sajjad,
Superintending Engineer of the DPHE Engineer Bahar Uddin and Senior District
Information Officer Humayun Kabir addressed the discussion.

The speakers appreciated the laudable improvement in rural life standard
and health indexes following the success achieved in sanitation, pure
drinking water, health, hygiene and medicare services to maintain clean
environment and good hygienic conditions.

Engineer Bahar Uddin said the sanitation campaign of the present
government has created a social renaissance reducing recurrence of diarrhea,
cholera, dysentery, hookworm and ringworm in rural areas to the minimum in
last ten years.
