Abiding traffic rules can reduce accidents

RANGPUR, Oct 22, 2018 (BSS) – Abiding by the traffic rules and safer use of roads along with ensuring professional skill of the drivers could reduce road accidents saving thousands of human lives annually.

Government officials and leaders of motor owners’ and workers’ associations today expressed the view at a post-rally discussion arranged at Katchari Bazar zero point in the city in observance of the National Road Safety Day-2018.

The district administration, Roads and Highways Department and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) jointly organised the rally, and discussion to create public awareness for reducing road accidents.

Earlier, a rally paraded city streets participated by the government officials, drivers, conductors, helpers, leaders of road transport workers and motor owners associations, rovers, scouts, and students.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib addressed the discussion as the chief guest with Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Rashidul Monnaf Kabir in the chair.

Deputy Director (Local Government) for Rangpur Ruhul Amin Mian, Additional Police Supers Maruf Elahi and Saifur Rahman Saif, Assistant Director of Rangpur Circle of BRTA Abdul Kuddus, Acting President of District Motor Owners’ Association Azizul Islam Raju and President of District Motor Workers’ Association Tazul Islam Mukul addressed as special guests.

The speakers said inadequate skill of some drivers, violation of traffic rules by the drivers as well as common people, faulty vehicles, bad road conditions, roadside hat-bazaars, using mobile phones while driving as main reasons behind road accidents.

They said lack of awareness among common people and pedestrians about traffic rules and overtaking on competition causes road accidents.

The ADM asked the concerns for ensuring training of drivers, issuance of driving licenses properly following the rules and obeying traffic rules strictly to avoid road accidents.

The chief guest called upon drivers, conductors and helpers, vehicle owners and common people to abide by the traffic rules strictly while driving vehicles or movements on the roads and highways to reduce road accidents.
