Deals for first ever smart pre-paid meter factory in Khulna
DHAKA, Oct 21, 2018 (BSS) – The power, energy and mineral resources ministry
initiated a bold step to install a first ever smart pre-paid meter manufacturing
factory in Khulna to meet local demand.
A state-owned West Zone Power Distribution Company (WZPDCL) and Chinese
Hexing Electrical Company Limited today signed a joint venture agreement to set
up a manufacturing unit in Bangladesh under the name and style as Bangladesh
Smart Electrical Company Limited.
According to the deal, WZPDCL and Chinese Hexing Electrical Company
Limited will jointly install the factory under 51:49 ownership basis.
Addressing the function as the chief guest State Minister for Power, Energy and
Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid asked other power related companies for taking
such of this initiative to produce electrical materials in the country so that smart
prepaid meter factory could produce quality products alongside price would be
fixed through competition.
“With Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s dynamic leadership the power ministry
has undertaken the initiative and signed a joint venture deal with Chinese Hexing
Electrical Company Limited (HECL) for the factory,” he said.
Secretary of WZPDCL Abdul Motaleb and chairman of HECL Zhou Liangzhang
signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides at Biduyt Bhaban.
Among others, Power Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, WZPDCL Chairman
Maksuda Khatun, BPDB Chairman Khaled Mahmood, Managing Director of
WZPDCL M Shafique Uddin and officials concerned attended the singing
ceremony.
M Shafique Uddin, Managing Director of WZPDCL said that the government is
committed to transform the country into “Digital Bangladesh” within 2021,
adding, “The main objective of the digital Bangladesh is to enhance the quality of
service and make the government service available to door step of every citizen.”
The contract detail said that the factory would begin its production from next
year.
