JS body for master plan for people living on Chitra river banks

DHAKA, Oct 21, 2018 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Shipping Ministry today recommended making a master plan under a special project for the socio-economic development of the people living on the banks of the Chitra river.

The committee came up with the recommendation at its 59th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Major (Retd) Rafiqul Islam Bir Uttam in the chair, an official release said.

Committee members Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Md Habibar Rahman, Ranajit Kumar Roy, Md Anwarul Azim (Anar) and Mamtaz Begum attended the meeting.

The committee also recommended the ministry to procure all kinds of required ships under Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC).

The meeting discussed the activities, problems and future plan of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) and the overall activities of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA)and BSC in detail.

The parliamentary watchdog was informed that a process of procuring two mother bulk carriers and 10 bulk carriers is underway under the BSC for transporting coal for the coal-fired power project.

Senior officials of the Shipping Ministry and Jatiya Sangsad were present in the meeting.
