DHAKA, Dec 19, 2017 (BSS) – Bangladesh Bank (BB) today removed the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer of Farmers Bank Limited (FBL), AKM Shameem, for failing to discharge his responsibilities and violating the rules of the central bank.

“BB has already sent a letter to the authorities of FBL in this regard,” Bangladesh Bank (BB) Chief Spokesperson Subhankar Shah told BSS today.

He said BB took the decision as Shameem could not give appropriate answers to the central bank against the allegations.

Moreover, he could not maintain the central bank’s rules and failed to create confidence of the depositors, he added.

He said AKM Shameem has also been barred from working in any bank for the next three years.

Earlier, former home minister Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir resigned as chairman of the FBL board of directors and executive committee in response to the central bank’s cautions against the liquidity crisis the FBL has been facing for quite some time.

Another member of the board of directors Mahabubul Haque Chisti also resigned as chairman of the FBL audit committee.
