Durga Puja ends with religious fervour in Khulna

KHULNA, Oct 20, 2018 (BSS) – The five-day celebration of Durga Puja, the
biggest religious festival of the Bangalee Hindu community, ended in the city
and nine upazilas of the district through immersion of the idols with due
religious fervour, gaiety and solemnity.

The Hindu community members celebrated Durga Puja this year amid
unprecedented enthusiasm and festivities through performing religious rituals
at record number of puja mandaps in the city and district.

The city and district unit Puja Udjapon Parishad and mandap authorities
brought out Shuvo Bijoya Dashami processions last night, carrying idols of
Devi Durga, other gods and goddesses on trucks and pick-up vans for
immersions into the rivers.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayon Chandra Chanda visited different
puja mandaps of Dumuria upazila in the district last night before immersion
of idols.

Earlier, hundreds of female devotees thronged puja mandaps on the Bijoya
Dashami to have last glimpse of Goddess Durga and seek her blessings for the
nation and mankind by putting ‘sindur’ (vermilion) and offering sweets to the
Mother.

A record number of 921 puja mandaps were erected this year in the city and
district and the government distributed around 472 tonnes of rice among
mandaps authorities to assist the Hindu community people in celebrating the
festival.

The law enforcers, who were on duty round the clock over the last five
days, were seen guarding yesterday’s Shuvo Bijoya Dashami processions.

Talking to BSS, President and general secretary of city unit Puja udjapon
parisad Shyamol Halder and Proshanto Kundu thanked the local authorities for
ensuring foolproof security and uninterrupted power supply during Durga Puja.

They expressed deep gratitude to the present government led by Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina for assisting them in celebrating Puja with due
religious fervour, enthusiasm and festivity.
