Celebration of Durga Puja ends in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Oct 19, 2018 (BSS) – The Sanaton community completed five-day celebrations of Durga Puja peacefully through immersion of the idols with due religious fervor, gaiety and solemnity in all eight districts under Rangpur division.

The greatest religious festivity of Durga Puja, the Santan community, was celebrated this year through performing religious rituals at record number of 5,265 Puja mandaps in the division amid huge enthusiasm and tight security measures.

Thousand of female devotees today thronged Puja mandaps to have last look at goddess Durga and seek her blessings for the nation, people and humanity as whole, fed her with sweets, put vermilion on her face and exchanged the same among themselves.

In Rangpur city, Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) brought out the huge ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’ procession from the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises carrying idols of Devi Durga on trucks for immersions into water bodies.

The district administration and Rangpur Metropolitan Police extended assistance to the city and district units of BPUP in bringing out the ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’ procession carrying idols of Devi Durga by trucks amid tight security measures.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, Police Super Mizanur Rahman, leaders of Awami League (AL) and Hindu community addressed a ceremony before launching the procession.

High government officials, leaders of Awami League, its associate bodies and district and city units of BPUP along with thousands of the Hindu devotees of all ages took part in the procession.

The law enforcers were seen guarding the ‘Shuvo Bijoya Dashami’ procession in the city for immersion of Devi Durga and other idols since the afternoon.

Most of the idols of goddess Durga were immersed into the water bodies of Mulatol Dighee, Dimla Mandir Dighee, Jailkhana Ghat, Doulatpur Dighee, Rail Gate Dighee, the river Dharla and other water bodies in the city and its surrounding areas.

Talking to reporters this evening, Acting President of district unit of BPUP Ajoy Prasad Babon thanked the government, local administrations and law enforcement agencies for ensuring complete security during the five-day celebrations of Durga Puja festival.

Earlier, the religious festival began on last Monday through ‘Bodhan’ (enlightenment) and the Sanaton community completed the five-day celebrations through immersions of the idols on the ‘Bijoya Dashami’ today.

Similar reports of peaceful celebrations of the five-day Durga Puja festival through immersion of idols were received here from Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Gaibandha, Lalmonirhat and Kurigram districts under Rangpur division.
