RANGPUR, Oct 19, 2018 (BSS) – The 54th birth anniversary of Sheikh
Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman, was observed here on Thursday in a befitting manner.

The district unit of Mohila Awami League, District Shishu Academy and
other organisations took various programmes, including placing of wreaths at
the portrait of Russel, cutting cake, discussion, milad mahfil, competitions
for children and prize distribution function.

The leaders and workers of the district and city units of AL and its
associate bodies attended the programmes, including doa mahfil and
discussion, held at district Mohila AL’s office in Betpotti area last night.

Chaired by General Secretary of district Mohila AL Adv Zakia Sultana
Choite, the discussion was addressed, among others, by Publicity and
Publication Secretary of district AL Rosy Rahman, its Office Secretary
Tauhidur Rahman Tutul and President of district Chhatra League Mehedi Hasan
Rony.

Marking the day, Shishu Academy, Rangpur, organised competitions on
recitation of poems and self-composed poems on Sheikh Russel and drawing
children followed by discussion and prize distribution function at its
auditorium.

Deputy Director of Local Government for Rangpur Ruhul Amin Mian attended
the discussion as the chief guest and later distributed prizes among winners
of different competitions.

Office Secretary of district AL Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, former District
Children Affairs Officer Mokhlesur Rahman and dance artist Shamima Zaman
addressed the discussion with District Children Affairs Officer Imran Mian in
the chair.

The speakers strongly condemned the assassination of Bangabandhu and
most of his family members, including Russel, on August 15, 1975, and said
both Bangladesh and Bangabandhu will remain inseparable forever.

Choite said the conspirators assassinated Sheikh Russel brutally in a
medieval style aiming at reversing the country’s independence through
eliminating Bangabandhu’s blood.

Rosy Rahman urged the leaders and activists of AL and its associate
bodies to further strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in
taking the nation ahead and realising Bangabandhu’s dream of building a
“Sonar Bangla”.
