Rock legend Bachchu begins eternal journey leaving “silver guitar”

DHAKA, Oct 18, 2018 (BSS) – Legendary rock star Ayub Bacchu, who
mesmerized for nearly three decades thousands of youths crazy for band music
began today his eternal journey breathing his last this morning, abandoning
forever his famous “silver guitar” at the age of 56.

The prominent singer, top class lead guitarist with unique style, composer
and songwriter died of a cardiac arrest visibly defying his own words “there
is still long way to go”, a comment he made during his last birthday on
August 16.

“He fell unconscious at his Magbazar residence at around 8.30 am and was
rushed to Square Hospital around 10 am when on-duty doctors said the singer
was dead before he was brought there,” Bachchu’s musical band LRB manager
Shahim Ahmed told BSS.

The news of his untimely demise spread rapidly drawing hundreds of his
friends, fans and fellow singers and musicians to the hospital premises.

Many broke into tears though the rock legend in one of his popular tracks
“Rupali Guitar” visibly asked the fans to hide their tears when he would go
away leaving his “silver guitar”.

The body of Bachchu, considered one of the few those made the backbone of
the county’s rock music, has been kept at the hospital mortuary as the family
somberly awaited his son and daughter to reach home from their current abodes
in Canada and Australia to see him for the last time.

Family sources said the body would be kept on the premises of Central
Shahheed Minar from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm tomorrow so his thousands of fans
and follower could have their last glimpses of their beloved rock star, whom
they adorably called AB by his initial or often “boss”, particularly by
younger musicians.

“The burial plan will be finalized in line with his children’s decision as
they are expected to reach home tomorrow,” Bachchu’s brother said.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep
shock at the death and prayed for his eternal peace and conveyed sympathy to
the bereaved family members.

Bachchu made his debut as a guitarist in late 1970s at his birth place
Chattagram with the band Feelings in 1978 ahead of joining in 1980 the Souls,
one of the pioneers in the band movement of Bangladesh.

In 1991 AB left Souls and formed LRB (Love Runs Blind) which released its
first double album containing tracks — “Ghum vanga shohore” “Madhobi”,
“Hoker” ” Sesh cithi keno amon cithi hoy”, “Happy” and “Dhakar Sondha” in
1992.

Some of his hits included “Sukh”, “Gotokal rate” “Khoniker Jonno”, “Rupali
guiter” and “Cholo bodle jai or Sei tumi”.

Apart from own band, as a solo singer Bachchu was as same as popular to
his fans.

He was a student of Chittagong Government Muslim High School and
Chittagong College.
