RU observes Sheikh Russell’s 55th birthday

RAJSHAHI, Oct 18, 2018 (BSS) – The 55th birthday of Sheikh Russell, the
youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was
observed today in a befitting manner at the Rajshahi University (RU) campus.

Russell, the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born
on this day (October 18) in 1964 at “Bangabandhu Bhaban”, the historical
residence of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman located at Road 32, Dhanmondi
in the capital.

Russell was a class-four student of University Laboratory School when he
along with his most of the family members, including Bangabandhu, was killed
by a group of disgruntled army men on August 15, 1975.

The birthday programmes include cake cutting, discussions, milad and doa
mahfils, rallies and cultural competitions at Sheikh Russell Model School.

RU Vice-chancellor Professor Abdus Sobhan attended the programme as the
chief guest while Director of Institute of Education and Research Prof Abul
Hassan Chowdhury in the chair.

Later, the VC distributed prizes among the winners of the competitions.

Among others, Pro-VC Prof Chowdhury Md Jakaria, Proctor Prof Lutfor
Rahman and Principal of the school Momena Zinat were present.
