Bangladesh Chemical Congress begins at DU
DHAKA, Oct 17, 2018 (BSS) – A three-day long “Bangladesh Chemical Congress” began here today with an optimism that the congress would greatly help chemical and pharmaceutical industries to grow further and compete globally.
With the theme “Chemistry for green living”, the congress was jointly organized by Bangladesh Chemical Society and Department of Chemistry of DU at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus.
Speaking at the function Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon said that the interaction of scientists of Bangladesh with their other internationally renowned counterparts at the conference will go a long way in knowledge sharing to help our chemical and pharmaceutical industries to develop further.
“This conference will inspire the entire scientific community in particular chemists and chemical technologists to make significant contributions towards the sustainable development of the country,” he said.
DU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Nasreen Ahmad said, “It is a challenge to manufacture sustainable, safe and non-polluting materials that consume minimum amount of materials and energy while producing little or no waste. The chemists have to play due role in this regard.”
Pro-VC (Administration) Professor Dr Muhammad Samad said that this year’s theme of the congress, chemistry for Green Living, is promoting vitality of nature and the sustainability of our environment.
DU Science Faculty Dean Prof Dr Abdul Aziz, DU Chemistry Department Chairperson Prof Dr Md Azizur Rahman and president and general secretary of Bangladesh Chemical Society Md. Abdul Karim and Prof Dr Md. Aftab Ali Shaikh, among others, addressed the programme.
