DURGA PUJA-RAJSHAHI (with picture)
Durga Puja starts in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, Oct 16, 2018 (BSS) – Durga Puja is being celebrated in the
city and nine upazilas of the district amid great enthusiasm and festive mood
since yesterday.
The festival was marked by puja, arati, recitation from scriptures,
distribution of proshad, offering of devotional songs.
A huge number of devotees are seen visiting different puja mandaps to
have a look at goddess Durga.
Anil Kumar Sarker, trustee of Hindu Development Trust, told BSS that of
the 463 mandaps including 80 in the metropolis have been erected here.
District administration has distributed more than 231.5 tons of rice to
celebrate Durga puja this year.
The celebration will end through the immersion of idols of goddess Durga
on Bijoya Dashami on Friday.
Meanwhile, security measures were taken in the city and its adjacent
areas to avert any untoward incident during the big religious festival of the
Hindu community.
AKM Hafiz Akter, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, said
four-tier security measures have been taken in the city areas. Teams of
police, Rapid Action Battalion, city especial branch of police and detective
branch have already been deployed in all important points of the city.
