Speaker for inclusive free trade to reduce inequality

DHAKA, Oct 15, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin
Chaudhury today underscored the need for formulation of inclusive free trade
policy to get rid of the existing inequality and discriminations in world
trade.

She said this while addressing a debate of the Standing Committee on
Sustainable Development, Finance and Trade of Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)
at its 139th Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, said a press release here
today.

Standing Committee Bureau member Silvia Dinica chaired the debate.
Bangladesh delegation members Jatiya Sangsad whip Iqbalur Rahim, MP, Md Abdul
Quddus, MP, AB Tajul Islam, MP, Mamtaz Begum, MP, KH Azizul Haque, MP, Asheq
Ullah Rafiq, MP, Mohammad Abdul Munim Chowdhury, MP and Shamim Haider
Patwary, MP attended it. Chaudhury said trade policy should be formulated
giving priority to poor, marginal and backward group of people for their
effective empowerment.

She said free trade is essential for positive change as Least Developed
Countries (LDCs) and developing countries will be benefited through this and
poor people will enjoy the yields of change.

Mentioning the contribution of trade and investment to attain millennium
development goals (MDGs), she said these components will also play an
effective role to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
