RCC, RMP vow to ensure peace, tranquility in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Oct 15, 2018 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) and
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) have vowed to working together for
ensuring peace and tranquility everywhere in the city.

Authorities of the two respective public entities expressed their
commitment while holding a joint meeting at the city bhaban conference hall
yesterday.

Among others, City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Chief Executive Officer
Rejaul Karim, Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque, and RMP Commissioner AKM Hafiz
Akter, Additional Commissioner Sujayet Islam and Deputy Commissioners Tanveer
Haider Chowdhury, Ameer Jafar and Sajid Hossain joined the meeting on behalf
of their respective sides.

Speaking on the occasion, Mayor Liton said the people involved in drug
peddling and trafficking and gambling will not go unpunished. Stern action
must be taken against them so that none get involved in the social-decaying
activities.

Liton sought RMP cooperation to free the footpaths and other public
spaces from illegal occupation. He said Bangladesh has set a bright instance
of establishing communal harmony. People of all faiths are now living in the
country amid peace and tranquility as the present government is pledged bound
to establish communal harmony in the society.

Taking part in the discussion, Commissioner Hafiz Akter said RMP has zero
tolerance against drug-trading, militancy and terrorism.

He told the meeting that RMP has adopted foolproof security measures for
ensuring a successful celebration of Durga Puja in the city.

The meeting was told that the puja will be celebrated at 97 mondaps in
the city from October 16 to 19 as elsewhere in the country.

Hafiz Akter said there will be adequate security measures centering the
puja celebration.

He said the leaders of Puja Udjapan Parishad have been urged to set up
close circuit cameras in the major puja mondaps and arrange separate incoming
and outgoing ways for male and female devotees.

Officers-in-charge of the police stations were asked to keep close
contact with the puja committees round the clock. He urged the traffic
division to ensure improved traffic management during the festival.
