DHAKA, Oct 14, 2018 (BSS) – Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi today said that the inclusion of youth in the development process is a must to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“We have achieved Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and hope that we will also be able to achieve the SDGs too. But the young generation has to pay a vital role to achieve this,” he said.
He was addressing a programme titled “Youth Conference 2018: Bangladesh and Agenda 2030-Aspirations of the Youth” at Krishibid Institute Bangladesh in the city as the chief guest.
The Citizen’s Platform for SDGs, Bangladesh organised the conference aims to aware the youth about their role in implementing the SDGs.
Dr Rizvi said, “We have to include the people who are not in our development process. Intellectual people specially the youth who have the capabilities have to be more responsible.”
State Minister for Youth and Sports Dr. Shri Biren Sikder said, “One third of our population is youth and this is our main resource and strength… I believe that we can achieve SDGs using of the strength of the youths.”
UNDP Country Director Sudipto Mukherjee said that the overall success of agenda 2030 depends on youth engagement in the mainstream development process. “Over 20 targets among 6 goals including gender parity, economic growth and climate action directly depends on youth,” he said.
Rasheda K Chowdhury said, “Bangladesh has over 3 lakh youth entrepreneurs currently and each employing from 10 to 4,000 people.
The outcomes of the conference to be documented, declared and disseminated at the national level.
