Aug 21 grenade attack: 17 convicts plea for copies of verdict
DHAKA, Oct 14, 2018 (BSS) – Seventeen convicts out of total 49 in August
21 grenade attack cases have pleaded for getting certified copies of the
verdict so far.
“The defence has applied for certified copies of the verdict. The full
text of the verdict is ready, but the court will scrutinize the verdict
afresh before supplying the certified copies. So, it will take more time to
get the copies of the verdict,” prosecutor advocate Md Abdullah Bhuiyan told
BSS.
According to the court sources, of the convicts, Lutfuzzaman Babar, Abdus
Salam Pintu, Ashraful Huda, Ariful Islam Arif, Saiful Islam Duke, Sheikh
Abdus Salam, Jahangir Alam, Mohibullah Ovee, Rafikul Islam Sabuj, Abul Kalam
Azad, Khoda Bokhsh Chowdhury, Md Ruhul Amin, Abdur Rahim, Rezzakul Haider
Chowdhury, Hossain Ahmed Tamim, Mawlana Abu Taher and Arif Hasan Sumon have
pleaded for certified copies of the verdict through their counsels.
Dhaka’s First Speedy Trial Tribunal on October 10 sentenced 19 people
including former State Minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar to death and 19
others including BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to life imprisonment in
August 21, 2004, grenade attack cases.
The court also sentenced 11 to different terms in jail as it found all the
49 accused guilty in two cases filed over the monstrous attack that killed 24
and injured more than 500 innocents.
