Speaker leaves for Geneva to attend IPU assembly
DHAKA, Oct 14, 2018 (BSS) – Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin
Sharmin Chaudhury today left here for Geneva, Switzerland to attend the 139th
assembly of Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The assembly with the theme ‘Placing science at the heart of parliaments,
policy-making and peace’ is scheduled to begin on October 14 and it will end
on October 18, an official release said today.
Speaker is leading a 17-member Bangladesh delegation in the 5-day session,
it also added.
More than 1,300 MPs from different countries are taking part the assembly
this year.
During the session, different important issues comprising invention of
information, science and technology, stopping false news and sexual
harassment, human rights, disarmament, counterterrorism, sustainable
development and about immigration will be discussed, it continued.
The speaker is expected to return home on October 18, 2018.
