613 puja mandaps ready to hold Durga Puja in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, OCT 14, 2018 (BSS) – All-out preparations have been completed
in 613 puja mandaps to hold 5-day long Durga Puja from Monday in the district
with due religious fervor, gaiety and solemnity.

General Secretary of District Puja Celebration Parishad Dipak Kumar Pal
said a total of 613 puja mandaps have been erected at seven upazilas in the
district this year.

Of them, some 141 mandaps have been erected at Sadar upazila, 123 at
Gobindaganj upazila, 141 at Sundarganj upazila, 103 at Sadullapur upazila, 61
at Palashbari upazila, 67 at Shaghata upazila and 18 at Fulchhari upazila, he
said. The number of puja mandaps increased by 35 this year, he added.

Hindu Community people of all ages are rushing to the markets and
purchasing puja clothes to celebrate the puja festival from tomorrow with
much enthusiasm and religious fervor.

The festival will conclude on October 19 through the immersion of the
idols after celebrating the Bijoy Dashami.

Initiative has been taken to provide uninterrupted power supply to the
puja mandaps at nights.

Superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah said security
measures have been taken in and around of all the puja mandaps to ensure a
peaceful atmosphere for holding the puja festival smoothly.

Police and elite force RAB including plain clothed law enforcers are
patrolling the roads to avoid any untoward incidents during the festival, the
SP added.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sebastin Rema said several vigilance teams
headed by additional deputy commissioners and UNOs had also been formed to
help the community celebrate the festival in a befitting manner.

The government had allocated 306.50 tonnes of rice for the puja mandaps
to assist the Hindu Community for celebrating the Durga Puja with festive
mood, the DC added.
