Imams’ vital role to establish crime-free society stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 12, 2018 (BSS) – Academics and religious leaders at a
programme here today mentioned that imams can play vital role in building
crime-free society which is crucial for the development of the nation.

They termed the imams ‘leaders of influence’ saying they should come
forward to free the society from social and moral degradation.

They were addressing the certificate giving and closing session of a 45-
day long regular and two-day house-wearing training courses of the 946th
batch of Imam Training Academy at its conference hall.

Prof AKM Shamsul Alam from Department of Arabic in Rajshahi University
(RU) addressed the session as the chief guest with Deputy Director of the
academy Monirul Islam in the chair.

Former Divisional Director of Islamic Foundation Syed Amin Uddin Mahmud
and religious leaders Mahbubur Rahman, Muhammad Abdullah and Abdul Matin also
spoke on the occasion.

Society at present is infested with crimes, misconceptions and
anomalies due to lack of proper knowledge on moral and religious values, the
chief guest said, adding that for this reason, social disorders and crimes
like gender disparity, violence against women, terrorism, corruption, early
marriage, drug-addiction and polygamy are rampant in the society.

He said zero tolerance against all sorts of violence and repression
against women are very important for the sake of mainstreaming the womenfolk
everywhere in the society for total welfare of the nation.

Prof Alam said the trained imams should do something against the crimes
as part of their social responsibility.

Later, the guests distributed certificates among 103 imams of the
training course coming from nine districts under Rajshahi and two districts
under Khulna divisions.
