adequate security measures to ensure peaceful celebration of the five-day
‘Sharodiya’ Durga Puja, the greatest religious festivity of the Sanaton
community, in the district.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Mizanur Rahman disclosed the information
while presiding over a views-exchange meeting on ‘Law and Order Situation
during Durga Puja-2018’ held at Police Community Hall here on Thursday
afternoon.

The SP said Durga Puja will be celebrated at 764 mandaps in all eight
upazilas of Rangpur district (excluding Rangpur metropolitan city where more
166 Puja Mandaps have been erected) amid tight security measures this year.

“Of them, the Sanaton community will celebrate Durga Puja festivity at 99
Mandaps in Sadar upazila, 126 in Badarganj, 69 in Taraganj, 120 in
Mithapukur, 193 in Pirganj, 86 in Pirgachha, 60 in Kawnia and 111 in
Gangachara upazilas of the district,” he said.

He said special security measures would be ensured including deployment of
police forces along with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar-VDP
and community police for peaceful celebrations of Durga Puja all over the
district.

The SP called upon everyone to remain cautious about the vested interests
of those people who could create chaos and sabotage anywhere in the district

birth to big chaos centering on a little issue,” Rahman said.
