JS body for new law to bring dynamism in JDPC

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2018 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the
Ministry of Textile and Jute today recommended accelerating the process of
formulating a new law for setting up a permanent structure in the Jute
Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) aiming to bring dynamism in the
activities of the centre.

The committee came up with the recommendation at its 34th meeting held at
Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Saber Hossain Chowdhury in the chair,
said an official release.

Textile and Jute Minister Md Emaz Uddin Pramanik and committee members
Fahmi Gulandaz Babel and Sabina Akter Tuhin attended the meeting.

The parliamentary watchdog also suggested completing the works of ‘Sonali
Bag Project’ within few months by forming a monitoring agency like taskforce.

It asked the Textile and Jute Ministry to provide necessary allocation to
the jute mills for buying jutes to keep the mills operational and take
necessary steps to implement the cabinet committee’s decision properly.

As per the cabinet committee’s decision, the government agencies are
supposed to buy 50 percent of their required jute bags from the Bangladesh
Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC).

Senior officials of the Textile and Jute Ministry and other officials
concerned were present at the meeting.
