Bangladesh’s Moin Ahmed reelected as IMSO director general

DHAKA, Oct 11, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh’s Captain Moin Ahmed was reelected
as the Director General of the International Mobile Satellite Organisation
(IMSO) at its 25th assembly session at the headquarters in London.

Attending the session, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan played an important
role in Ahmed’s reelection in the post, said a press release here.

Earlier, Ahmed as a first Bangladeshi was elected director general of the
international organization in 2015.

The IMSO, which came into being in 1979 as International Maritime Satellite
Organization (INMARSAT), is the inter-governmental organization whose primary
purpose is the oversight of certain public satellite safety and security
communication services provided by mobile satellite communication systems.

IMSO also acts as the International LRIT Coordinator, appointed by IMO to
ensure the operation of the international system for the Long Range
Identification and Tracking of Ships (LRIT) worldwide by auditing and
reviewing the performance of the system.
