Bangladesh’s success lauded in ensuring girl child rights

RANGPUR, Oct 10, 2018 (BSS) – Rights activists at a human chain programme
here have lauded the success achieved by Bangladesh in ensuring rights of the
girl children on its approach to attain the sustainable development goals
(SDGs).

They came up with the appreciation at the programme arranged at Katchari
Bazar point in the city on Tuesday while observing the National Girl Child
Day-2018 and Child Marriage Prevention Day- 2018.

The district administration and District Women Affairs’ Office in
association with the National Girl Child Advocacy Forum (NGCAF), human and
women rights and non-governmental development organisations organised the
programme.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib addressed the programme as the chief
guest with District Women Affairs Officer Mrs Kawsar Pervin the chair.

District Children Affairs Officer Imran Mian, President of district NGCAF
Fakhrul Anam Benzu, human rights activists Somse Ara Bilkis and Shyamol
Mohanta, students Farhana Haque, Kulsum Ara, Pervin Akhter and Mukta Rani,
among others, addressed.

Pointing to the impacts of child marriage on the lives of premature girls,
the speakers emphasized on creating awareness among family member and society
to ensure equal rights of girl children.

They said Bangladesh has achieved laudable success in ensuring education,
health care, equal rights, safety and security of the girl children, stopping
early marriage and violence against children.

Somse Ara Bilkis said constitutional rights of all girl children must be
ensured so that they could become worthy citizens and can contribute to every
sphere of the social, political, economic and national arena of the country.

College student Farhana Haque laid emphasis on properly flourishing latent
talents of the girl children to eradicate the prevailing discrimination and
ensure their education, health care, safety, security and equal participation
in the nation building activities.

The chief guest narrated the steps taken by the present government to
prevent child marriage and ensure normal growth and flourishing latent
talents of the girl children to make them worthy citizens for attaining
sustainable national developments.
