Ensuring Jute Packaging Act use to protect its industry stressed

RAJSHAHI, Oct 8, 2018 (BSS) – Speakers at a discussion here today stressed
the need for strict using of Jute Packaging Act to flourish its industry
along with protecting environment from pollution.

They also called for conducting combing operation against polythene use for
successful execution of the act that made the use of jute bags in packing
food stuff and farm produces mandatory.

They came up with the observation while addressing a meeting on “Present
Situation of Jute and Jute Industries in Bangladesh and Way Forward” at a
city restaurant.

Jute Protection Committee and Paribartan, a local organisation, jointly
organized the meeting in association with actionaid.

General Secretary of Workers Party of Bangladesh Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP,
addressed the meeting as the chief guest with President of Shaw Unnayan
Mustafizur Rahman Khan in the chair.

Executive Director of Sachetan Hasinul Islam, Director of Barndra Unnayan
Prochesta Foyzullah Chowdhury and Director of Paribartan Rashed Ibney Obayed
also spoke.

During his keynote presentation, Khaled Hossain, General Secretary of the
jute protection committee, gave an overview of the country’s jute and jute
industries condition.

Speakers said the district administrations and others concerned should
work together for strict using of successful Jute Packaging Act.

Badsha said the present government has adopted all-out measures to maintain
demand and supply of jute bags. If anyone tries to create artificial crisis
of the bags he or she must be brought to book instantly.

According to jute packaging act, paddy, rice, wheat, maze, fertilizer and
sugar must be packaged in jute bags. If anyone can violate the act for using
non-degradable synthetics to package commodities, he or she must be faced a
maximum one year jail or fine Tk 50,000 or both.
