October 5, 2014 - Ayotzinapa, Guerrero, Mexico: Parents of the 43 missing students meet at the teachers rural college in Ayotzinapa, where the students came from. They went missing after a clash with the police in Iguala last week. Mexican police killed three trainee teachers, shot another in the head and another in the face, and herded dozens more into police trucks to a massacre on a remote hillside. On the night of September 26, officers accused of having links to a violent criminal gang in Iguala pursued about 80 members of a nearby teaching college well-known for its left-wing radicalism. At least three students were killed in a series of clashes that began after the youths commandeered three buses from the city's bus station. The shooting began after the students resisted police demands to give up the buses, and then fled on foot. Three students were killed and another three people also died in the gunfire. Investigators have since found 28 corpses buried in mass graves. State security officials believe some of the 43 students still missing since the confrontation are among the victims. ২০১০ সালের ১৯ মার্চ রাতে জর্জ অ্যান্টোনিও মার্কাদো আলোনসো ও জাভিয়ের ফ্রান্সিস্কো আরেদন্ডো ভার্দুগো নামের এই দুই শিক্ষার্থী বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের গ্রন্থাগার থেকে ফেরার পথে সেনা সদস্য ও মাদক চক্রের মধ্যে বন্দুকযুদ্ধ শুরু হলে নিহত হয়। তাদের বয়স ছিল ২৩ ও ২৪ বছর।
প্রকৌশল বিভাগের এই দুই নিরীহ ¯œাতক শিক্ষার্থীকে তারা হত্যা করেছে এমন কথা স্বীকার করার বদলে তাদেরকে মাদক চক্রের সদস্য হিসেবে চিহিৃত করতে তাদের লাশের পাশে বন্দুক রেখে দিয়ে কর্তৃপক্ষ এই ছাত্রদের অভিযুক্ত করে।
মেক্সিকোর উত্তরাঞ্চলীয় মন্টারে নগরীতে এক অনুষ্ঠানে এই দুই শিক্ষার্থীর বাবা-মাকে স্বরাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ওলগা সানচেজ বলেন, ‘আপনাদের সন্তানের জীবন হারানোর জন্য মেক্সিকো রাষ্ট্রের পক্ষ থেকে আমি আপনাদের কাছে প্রকাশ্যে ক্ষমা প্রার্থনা করছি।’ তারা এ নগরীর ইনস্টিটিউট অব টেকনোলজি অ্যান্ড হায়ার এডুকেশনে পড়তো।
